Liu Xinyuan: Famous epigrapher and calligrapher of Late Qing Dynasty
Liu Xinyuan (1848-1915) was born in Honghu, Jingzhou City. In 1876, he was nominated as an officer in Hanlin Yuan by the emperor for his excellent performance in the imperial examinations. Then he was promoted to the supervisory censor of Jiangnan Dao, the censor of Jiangxi Dao and Guangzhou Dao, the censor of Jingji Dao, the prefecture of Kuizhou in Sichuan Province, Chengdu prefecture and so on. He accepted the invitation from National Government to be the governor of Hubei Province and the censor of Hunan Province after the Revolution of 1911. Liu spent all his lifetime on epigraphic researching, mining and recording by himself, and enjoyed it very much. His writing was elegant in the new form of Weibei. He wrote some books, such as The Check of Ancient prose, An Introduction of Stone, An Introduction of Jijin, Fan Hui Book.
